wow that was a cold one

Just cycled into school and I had to defrost , just getting feeling back into my hands . I had two pairs of gloves on to combat cold !

Have to set up ripple tank and vibration generator but that will have to wait until i defrost :)
two pairs of gloves on today, my fingers hurt yesterday with my normal ones.

Been looking at USB heated gloves, gilets, jackets and coats. Not found any trousers, hats or socks yet

Well! Looks like I best be prepared for this. In comparison the last 3 days have been 43, 42,and 42C. Yesterday I packed my suitcase figuring I am not going to need any of my winter clothes here. Last night I went to Carols by Candlelight which is very much an Aussie thing. Half way through there was a massive dust / wind storm and the remainder of the night was cancelled.

I am considering buying a bike at some point but idk if I have a good storage option for one at my place atm...
I might ask HR if there's any cycle to work scheme which might push me to do it.

Get a brompton, I just fold it and put it under the stairs, you can save about £500 on cycle to work and they hold their value.

First time on the ice will be a challenge so will keep the advice in my mind about slow, steady and no harsh turns / braking.

Stay on the main roads, they don't grit the cycle paths or low traffic areas.

Many years ago when it was very cold, I had handlebar muffs on my motorbike. It was still too cold so I made heated handlebar grips by wrapping tape around the grips and then coiled nichrome wire which was connected to the lights circuit so they would come on when I switched on the lights. Lovely warm hands until it melted through the tape, burned through one of my gloves, smoke came from the handlebar muff, and the fuse to the lights blew.

Good in theory though.

I will not be risking it, unless my car gives out, as it is all unlit too. I dread falling off and not being found for hours. It is nearly 4 miles one-way.
I've got crash and fall detection linked to Emergency SOS on my smartwatch and I had no idea how much safer it would make me feel until I activated it.

oooh! I think my phone has it on but it is usually in my bag when I bike. I did fall off in summer.....advantage of falling off with no-one around to see my ungainly fall was good then but would not be in this weather.

Mine has gone off for an emergency stop (dog tried to play fetch with my bike) and once when I fell over running. Neither time I actually needed the alert thankfully. Since there are often false alerts when I'm cleaning (I think my wrist squashes the buttons when I'm scrubbing the shower and bath) it was reassuring that it also recognised genuine situations where I might have needed it.
