Wearing headphones during the Summer break

My Physics Prep Room opens off one of the labs - no direct access to a corridor.
For ad-free, calming music, I have a Sony CFD 5100L (CDs, Cassettes, Radio). This can be employed when no classes are expected in College.
For at-desk work, the S-DOG speakers (illustrated) plug in and come out to play. I wouldn't describe them as serious woofers).
In term time, I use small lightweight headphones to listen to training videos or e.g. The Feynman Lectures audio streams. I can easily hear someone talking to me while wearing these.
For Teams/Zoom meetings, I wear my Sennheiser headphones (new in 1990). Comfy and they don't bleed audio feedback into the mike.

I'm fairly deaf, nothing above 7kHz (makes setting up "The range of human hearing" interesting), I wear two hearing aids, I can still hear without them but struggle to understand anyone who talks softly or too fast.
For music I have a bluetooth bone conduction headset. this means I can listen to music/audiobooks while still wearing my aids and can hear anyone moving around the building.

My view is that so long as you can hear alarms/people trying to get your attention it shouldn't matter if you're wearing headphones, even in term time. Obviously, what you can hear is a matter of personal decision, I myself can hear pretty much everything around me even with headphones on thanks to hypersensitivity.
I usually have music playing off my phone speaker during menial tasks to make the days more bearable and keep me on task. I don't play anything that could come across as not safe for work or explicit, and can pause it if anyone wants to talk to me or a student needs something. It might be my poor ability to pick up on social cues, but no one seems to be opposed to approaching me when I've got music on, once again your mileage may vary.

Typical physicist ... I spent nearly all day listening to a EP90 Genesis cassette (Genesis and Invisible Touch) at some volume on a mini-hifi. Not only did both the player and cassette work flawlessly but it even auto-reversed several times and sounded fairly decent. Says something about the quality of Maxell XLll-90 chrome tapes as I think I recorded it in about 1990!
