Wearing headphones during the Summer break

Dear all,
As an all year round technician at a private school (kids have broken up) what is your view on wearing headphones?

I generally resist doing so myself (as much as I want to wear some and listen to tunes) as I fear I will come across as a bit aloof/unavailable if someone is after me. However I notice others sometimes do.

I know I am probably being my usual overthinky people pleasing self asking this but what are your views?

Full headphones would probably come across as anti-social, but if you have earphones just wear one so you can hear what you're listening too, but also you're not in your own little world that people feel uncomfortable when they need to talk to you
 
No I wouldn't wear headphones as a H&S issue, fire alarm etc In the holidays I'll blast my radio take it around with me when I'm busy in a lab/prep room etc. And also if I had headphones on in the hols if someone walked up to me without my knowledge in could frighten the life out of me!....an I'm getting on a bit! :-D .....
 
I would have my music on a speaker and carry it around with me. I'd jump a mile if I thought I was alone with headphones on and someone tapped me on the shoulder. :laughing: I do wear my ear pods in the prep room, but usually to drown out the kids noise from the labs either side.
 
I only have headphones. I'll usually only have one side over my ears though, if only for safety. TBH I think it's fair, I'm only gonna see the rest of the tech team during the summer and I'll stop and have a chat every now and then. I just want to chill and crack on with the last bits I have left to do. when I leave the science building I take them off though

just get a little bluetooth speaker and you can listen through that.

just get a portable speaker and play your music in which ever room you are working in thats what i do .. you wont upset anybody as all your teaching staff have proberly gone anyway. cleaners etc have there radios etc.

I listen via my bluetooth speaker or radio, even during the school term. Easier to get ahold of me and I'm not fussed people hearing my music choices tbh. Also better for your hearing to not use them alot (I already have tinnitus from being a muppet) where I don't wear earphones unless I'd be a public nuisance.

Also the odds that someone needs me during the break are close to 0% so I'm not bothered either way.
 
I wear them in the holidays to listen to audiobooks or podcasts and I can definitely hear the fire alarm through them as I don't have the volume very high. It helps take the boredom out of PAT testing. I don't tend to wear them in term time, when kids and teachers are about but I do have the radio on all day in the prep room.
 
I have an old ghetto blaster type thing while I'm punching books ... only issue is getting reception as Ken Bruce gets washed out by our Faraday Cage of a building.
