Our school have just moved into a new building in which we do not have a water still installed. We have purchased a Cole Parmer WS-200-4 and have have had the unit delivered, but as we've just moved the school doesn't currently have any outside contractors to install it and our estates team are not qualified. It has now been left up to us to organise the installation. We have had what we think is a ridiculous quote from the suppliers of the unit of £1300, this doesn't even include wiring the unit to an isolation switch.

Does anyone have any experience with getting this type of water still, or similar, installed? If so, please let us know who you used as we are getting desperate now!

Thank you in advance :)

You need a shelf above a sink with a swan neck type tap fitting

You need an electrician to hard wire it to the supply (NOT A PLUG)

God knows why they think that'd cost £1300 unless they're quoting you for the kit again?

You also need a non-return valve between the tap and still (in Scotland at least!)

That actually makes a lot more sense...

Any competent qualified electrician should be able to hard wire it in, we did actually run one off standard 13A mains for a while without issue, if it is a brand new fitting, the plumbing to drain the water away will have to meet the latest regulations regarding backflow, the £1300 quote looks like the usual, 'I saw you coming company' that seem to supply most schools today.

they specify a dedicated RCD so not on a ring ideally
All units should be connected to the mains supply via a double pole 30mA RCD isolating circuit breaker rated at 15A
they should have planned for this as it's a new build.

replacing 2 fume cupboard gas taps (the ones on the front type) was >£500, parts were about £200.

This will be running a radial to the board probably like a cooker/hob.

We ordered a new still before lockdown, still waiting for it to be installed, every year we ask for it to be installed and every year we get told that its going to cost to much to install it as we are in a PPI building and they have their own electrician, so we cannot just get quotes from local electricians.

you just need a plumber to fit a supply and drain and nearby electricity, they can do both.

Agree with the above. Ours was hard wired in by our the school electrician who is a self employed electrician but does a lot of work here. I don't know what he charged though as that was all sorted by Estates.
