Teachers v support staff

Just read an email addressed to whole school about Easter revision. Teachers are able to earn £90 per session for doing revision with the pupils over the holiday.
Cover supervisors, LSAs etc are also welcome to sign up. No mention of any payment what so ever! Yet another example of the way support staff are treated compared to teachers.

Our school are paying £20 per hour, but the offer is open to all staff. Its a bit poor if they're not offering the same to support staff.

Same here , so for summer school Teachers get £30 per hour , I get my normal rate !

I did not realise this at the time. If they ask me to come in this year , it is £30 a hour or no show !!

It really annoys me when teachers want stuff for <insert holiday here> school, they get paid extra for this but I have to just 'lump it' with the extra workload despite complaining in the past. They've even had kids roaming the corridors with building/electrical works going on round them in past years.

Honestly they should just charge the typical "private tutor" hourly pay is and call it a day. But teachers are paid more than that generally so it'd mean they wouldn't want to waste their precious holiday they get paid for anyway...

Tbh I like the idea of using some of my plus days to do some tutoring if it means I get them over and done with

they should not be doing practicals in holidays, unless they "have the full support of the school", this means smt (head or DH) on site, first aid etc etc

If in doubt ask CLEAPSS.

I bang on about first aid provision for anything during holidays & evenings.
It's something they never think about.

Well, not sure what ours will do with the summer club, if it is happening this year. @Emil Tac did it previously ( paid) but i really don't want to do it & there is no one else.

Fortunately it hasn't happened in the last few years, BUT....

They've previously asked for volunteers (who get paid extra) to supervise weekend revision sessions, I know if I volunteer it will become 'custom and practice' after the first session.

SMT on site, in the holidays? Does that even happen?

I got paid the same as teachers (£150/day before taxes) but that was after having to justify the fact that I will be doing the "equivalent" work.
In actual fact, I did 80% of the total work as I planned, prepped, cleared up and sometimes ran the session (behaviour management wasn't an issue). The teacher made a crappy 5 minute powerpoint and was just a presence.

I'd do it again if I was there, but I'd propose to the school to give me £200 and I'd run it solo which I would much rather prefer as the teachers got on my nerves trying to steal the spotlight from my hard work and not explaining things properly to the kids. Shoo Shoo!

@Puds I might be willing to run it in the Summer as I'll be in London for some time anyway.
Nah. Sod 'em.
Plus there'll be all the prep & going by how the new tech situation is going, there will only be me here!!

I remember a few years back, when an email went round asking for staff to come in to give pupils extra revision. We asked the HOD does that include us, as all science staff were in and asking for experiments and at £20 per hour we would come in..... we were told ' YOU!!!!! No!!!!! that's for teachers only'.
Ah ok then. no experiments prepped and everything requested locked away.

I can come in to prep but I edited previous post.... for an extra daily fee of course.

(plus VAT and travel costs heheh....)

(And an extra "not used to being in that prep room anymore" fee)

(and extra "health and safety" levy since you know, all that broken glass in sinks and all)
I don't like to do a thread about new & difficult techs , but     is my reaction to the ones we have now.

We had the same for after school classes for year 5's. SLT said £150 a week for teachers, nothing for us.
I said I wouldn't do it so they said ok just prep for it. No. SLT moaned at me & said they thought I would like to help children. Funny how they don't expect teachers to help out of kindness of their hearts!
To be fair the teacher kicked up a fuss & said she couldn't do it without me. Although flip side of that is she wanted to do an initial cosy chat with kids, then leave me to it. I had to make new worksheets, do all the H & S & prep & do demos & practicals.
I was only paid tech overtime rate for 1 hour. even though I stayed until 5:30 pm clearing up.
Never again.

When they did a revision programme here over a break (many years ago), the technicians got an extra payment as they were doing some practicals which had to be prepared.

Pre-Covid an external holiday club wanted to use our labs for fun science for their children. They needed a tech to prep all the experiments, do all the clearing up and be in the department all day every day for the 2 weeks. No consideration of where the resources for said experiments would come from, no RA's, wanted full access to prep rooms, experiments pulled from Youtube etc. They offered £16p/h, the teachers they were bringing in were getting significantly more. I told them that what they were offering was insulting and I would start negotiations at £60p/h. We never heard back!
