Strike Day shenanigans.

Lovely!
Got some stuff done, listened to some music (stone roses and some 00's electronica/garage type thingymebob.
Good stuff - even got a late order for a Yr 13 practical tomorrow and I don't even care???
There should be 1 day a month like this.
Maybe as technicians we could go on strike until this demand is met - though sounds like an inconvenience having to go out and all that.
I don't know what I'm writing - not really seen anybody today.
Good stuff - I'm going home now
Cheerio

Yeah I've got one practical all day tomorrow (mitosis cells) and had zero today, been great. Although my neck is hurting now looking up for awhile

I've been spring cleaning the prep room, chucking out stuff that I have no idea why we kept it, and anything the mice have chewed, pooed on or died on

And I agree, we need a strike day once a month to give us a chance to catch up with ourselves !

well if they don't reach a settlement it will be, then 3, 4, 5 days...

We had sixth form in yesterday and today, so they've been catching up on all the practicals that they haven't had time to do before the mocks, i'm knee deep in washing up!!

A part time teacher working 2 days a week earns more than most technicians working full time. She works Thursdays and Fridays and complains about how exhausted she is first thing Thursday morning. When you pick her up on it, she gets defensive about it. It's actually very annoying, just like teachers in the staff room moaning about how hard up they are with people right next to them earning a fraction. Or them moaning about how big their yearly pay rise is going to be
One science teacher claiming to be hard up just spent £150k on an extension to an already big house.

It's the equivalent of me going to a homeless man and pondering whether I should have steak or a stir fry for dinner and then complaining how exhausting such decision making is...

Seriously, some people need some self awareness.

*Good ol' morning rant over*
I actually had a teacher ( English, not science) Moan about teacher pay & then literally shook her head & said, " What am I saying? You guys are paid crap, sorry, I shouldn't moan about pay in front of you"!!
Awww. So on one hand I was thinking 50 odd K not crap.
On the other, Awwwww, for being aware.

Weren't you given a req once when you were in the loo and teacher shouted over cubicle?
 :omg: Yes! I've had a few like that, then if you forget ( wink wink) it, they say, " But I ASKED you, don't you remember?".
When I've said, yes, but I was in loo/ on phone/talking to someone/on way home/ or whatever scenario, I get, " Yes, but you must have heard, you answered me". Sigh.
Not getting the practical hasn't taught a lesson sadly. I've even been phoned at home o texted for practical. Just to give me "heads up" allegedly.
Mind you, I've also had kids bring text books back to me at home so....

Good really as I have visions of being asked for practicals on it.

I was on it at my last school, it started when some were working from home. I answered a question about glow worms and got a snotty response from the then Head of Science saying some of us are working don't bother us.
I nearly replied well turn your notifications off then you idiot, (other expletives may have been in mind) However I simply left the group.
I eventually left the school too.

I've been organising a big chem store clear-out (>18Kg and >19L of waste and chems we don't use are going, as are the four [!!!!] superfluous gas cylinders I've been saddled with and not used once since I started here).

Premises have organised gas checks and structural work in the dept so I have been doing some sorting out around that.

Getting ready for my microscale chem CPD day (Next week!!!).

Going out and about for lunch for a change, stretching my legs.

Chasing down cover teachers for other departments whose cover staff just haven't materialised because I happen to be the closest body with a phone.

Did some filming for the science teacher who also teaches BTEC health and social, so she could concentrate on marking their role-play assessments as they did them (a lot of VERY wooden acting. Not sure I can even honestly describe it as acting. They were just reading a script at each other. When did kids lose the ability to play pretend?).

Automatic reply to requisitions not on Lab Logger is "put it in an email for me"

Not in an email, never happened

My wording is slightly different as we use a google form for reqs, but yep, if it's not on the spreadsheet it's not happening ! Maybe one day they (particularly HOD) will get the message.

I am so bored of the strike this afternoon I have just been constantly cleaning and adminning and using spreadsheets today and there's been NO practical and NO kids with random requests and NO first aid or anything with the slightest crumb of entertainment value, interest or novelty.

Technician Q

(she/her)
Yeah, "email me or you're not getting it".
They know I mean it too because I can get distracted and totally forget it before I've even left the room.
“Write it in the book”. Because once they get to that stage they’re past adding to the google sheet.

Don't bother us! How rude  Glad our Head of Science isn't like that.
