Prestige High dome 6L pressure cooker

Hi. I need some advice regarding the prestige pressure cooker that is recommended for agar sterilization.
Basically what is the amount of water needed in the cooker for sterilizing 3 x 250 ml conicals of nutrient agar?
We had an old pressure cooker and we would fill it a third full. We would then put it on the hotplate until the steam appearred then put the weight on it for 15 minutes while turnionh the heat down. Would this be the same for our shiny new pressure cooker?
any advice would be welcome. Thanks!

A third full seems a bit too much water I generally put about a litre in it, if you use hot water from a kettle it will speed up the process, I just put the lid on with weight fitted and wait until it seals it self and give it about a minute of steaming loudly then I turn the heat down so it is just gently hissing, I must admit I prefer a gas burner though as it seems to give better control for the heating. For hard water areas consider using distilled water.

Thank you. Ill give that a try. How long do you suggest I leave it gently hissing?

I would suggest if it is a new pressure cooker it would come with instructions for you to read. Also you need to put TST strip in to test if it is reaching correct temperature for sterilisation

Check out GL272 on Cleapss, it gives all the information to correctly sterilise. Basically fill to bottom of trivet, free steam for 5 mins, then put the weights on and once it reaches pressure, time for 15 mins. (I keep my hotplate on full to ensure pressure is maintained!)
