Mire Mysteries!

Delving into the physics store....does anyone have any idea what these are?! The black one has swivel feet to stand it up and the wooden one has a bit that slides up and down in the middle.

They are training aids to read vernier scales, not specifically calipers, I've never seen them as giant calipers just giant vernier scales. At auction I've seen them for a couple of hundred.

Wow, I'd better lock ours up then;). It gets used with every class before they use real verniers for the first time.
