Mind-numbingly bored!!! Need a new challenge!

Technician Q

(she/her)
i did reiterate this morning that its not my responsibility, which fell on deaf ears and he said that she can only do practical's when i have gone through it with her and i say she is competent to do it!!

so if she messes up, does that mean it falls on my head?! bugger off!!!
A person can only delegate tasks, not responsibility.

They can delegate the task of showing trainees how to do practicals but if the trainee doesn’t come or can’t do it then it’s their responsibility

They can trust you to say the trainee is competent but it’s still their responsibility if it turns out they weren’t.

And being able to do X in a calm preproom is not the same as supervising tweety to thirty kids doing X - something a technician isn’t expected to do let alone determine if another could do it!

One of our old teachers years ago used to get us to help quickly set up practicals in separate trays. He'd have a tray too. he'd then do the practical step by step with the kids, calling out what to do at each step. But he was super organised. Worked well though.

In order to keep the brain active, a few years ago now, I learned how to read Egyptian hieroglyphs. Started with a book from the library, then went on to study advanced and further readings at Birkbeck College in the evenings for seven years. Sat next to a girl on my first lesson who is now my wife, and we had our honeymoon on a steam paddleboat on the Nile. Had the front cabin with a private balcony. Best thing I ever did deciding to go on that course. I used to sit in an empty lab at lunchtimes doing translations for my homework.
I'm improving my Cyrillic handwriting in down time between tasks. Nice to know there's another languages nerd on here!

Less nerdy, more trying slowly, but did french duolingo during lockdown and got addicted (languages being my worst thing at O level!). Now learning ukrainian- though probably means my french is disappearing due to lack of use...
Safe to say, though my reading of it is ok, have never yet tried writing with the ukrainian alphabet. Plus written/typed is totally different to handwritten..
