Laser recommendations for AQA A level Physics

Essentially, 1) I have (just) found out that we must use our budget up for orders today, and 2) This must include equipment for the new A level Physics we will be doing.

As you can imagine, being a lone tech with practical stuff to do I don't have as much time to go deeper into if a piece of equipment is suitable.

One of the practical's for A level Physics I recall involves the use of lasers, and these look suffice (https://www.timstar.co.uk/op161465-red-orange-laser-pointer-635nm.html ) but I just wanted to pass this across some more experience techs to maybe point out if they may not be suitable.

I love this schools organisation....

We have both laser pointers and a proper Unilab laser. We use the laser pointers for the RP and they get decent enough results but the fringe edges are quite smeary compared to the laser, and I had to make holders to keep them steady (a clamp would also work!)

Can you persuade the powers that hold the purse strings that https://www.timstar.co.uk/op120100-multifunction-laser.html would be better value (I've not used it - we have https://www.philipharris.co.uk/prod...aves/lasers/unilab-solid-state-laser/b8h83651 and it's older big brother)

I guess if there is the 'use it or lose it' attitude then I can persuade them to do anything! I will put it in. Thank you for this :)

We recently bought one of these

We liked the option to look at the difference in diffraction pattern between the red and green

This is the set of slits and grating s we have

I don’t know if you need all the other filters that Timstar set gives you

On my shopping list if we have spare budget

you can have my one but it melts the slits.
These things terrify me. Green lasers work by using a high-power infra-red laser and very inefficiently frequency doubling it to give green light. The IR is supposed to be filtered out. If it is melting the slits then there is far to much power there.

We followed CLEAPSS advice and bought a class set of spirit levels with lasers. They were around a tenner each and a big and yellow so less likely to go missing
