I have a set of small bar magnets that would fit in test tubes but we usually hang one from a cradle and move another magnet towards it for this, I think static electricity is part of this too, if you want a nice demo the floating paper clip is quite good, set a strong magnet in a clamp, attach a paper clip to some fine but visible thread, with trial and error you can get the paper clip to float in the air with out touching the magnet, I use a 100g mass with a ring on it as an anchor.

We use plastic test tubes with a lid...put two cermanic magnets inside with the same poles together so they repeal each other..then we give the kids plasticience which they put on the top of the top magnet.... which they keep weighing/adding on to until the mass of the plasticience is big enough to overcome the magnets ability to keep themselves apart...
hope that makes sense..early morning
