Ideas for new practicals/demos & interesting history related to the periodic table/atomic structure?

Looking for some ideas/help. I have been given the task of researching new/different practicals/demo's for the SOW, in addition to some hinterland (interesting stories based on culture/history). The main topic is Atomic structure & the periodic table.

Individual areas: Separation of mixtures (filtration, crystallisation), the atomic model, components of an atom, isotopes (and calculating their abundance), electron shells, distillation vs fractional distillation, chromatography, periodic table interesting information, group 0, 1, and 7 reactions relating to electronic shell configuration and properties of transition metals. Any new ideas/interesting history sources would be most welcome :)
