HSE inspecting school for radiation

that is on the standard "use log radioactive sources" on L93, does that not cover it?

We don't have writen local rules, just L93.
actually we do we, follow the Cleapss Ionising Radiations and Radioactive Substances - Standard Operating Procedures template

In ours they have to lock the padlock, so I can't check them till i put them away.

it say removed from, or returned to so I think you're fine

The security of all radioactive substances is vital. The use log must be completed
whenever a radioactive source is removed from, or returned to, the secure store.
When signing the use log, you must check that the sources are actually present in their
containers. For radiochemicals, record the approximate mass used.

and

A member of staff must check sources immediately after use by students.

which would be the teachers responsibility if letting students handle them.

WJEC board here, they never do during my time here, logs all show demo only.
Which practical is it, if you recall?
for OCR it's PAG7.2, investigating absorption of radioactive particles and rays. And it's practical skills requirement 1.2.2(l) use of ionising radiation, including detectors

Can't find a number but it is one of the required practicals for A-Level Phys called Investigation of the variation of intensity of gamma radiation with distance according to the technician notes I found

Yup, done as a demo here for WJEC

Then they're doing it differently than intended as the skills were written and sent to every exam board to implement as the compulsory practicals
The students have to be signed off as having been watched performing the skills themselves

Most of the skills can be attributed to several different pracs (research, referencing, following instructions etc.) but the ones for this particular practical are specific and only apply to performing the practical themselves

At GCSE they can get away with watching demo's but for A-Level (excepting the 2 years the pandemic made things weird") that's not the case - they have to do the skills themselves

I'll raise this with the HOD then, maybe it's a blunder with WJEC or in the school scheme of work.

Isn't education devolved to the Welsh Assembly? Therefore not governed by English laws?
They still have them
The Core Practical Assessment Criteria were rolled out to all exam boards, one set that were universal regardless of which board you're taking

You can find the WJEC information on them if you look

HSE will usually use the contact email address that was given on the employers details online when the 'Registration' was completed.

I recommend a specific email address is created for this purpose e.g. radiation@... then key people added to this address e.g., RPS, Head of Science, Business Manager etc.

Thanks

Tony
