actually we do we, follow the Cleapss Ionising Radiations and Radioactive Substances - Standard Operating Procedures templatethat is on the standard "use log radioactive sources" on L93, does that not cover it?
We don't have writen local rules, just L93.
In ours they have to lock the padlock, so I can't check them till i put them away.
The security of all radioactive substances is vital. The use log must be completed
whenever a radioactive source is removed from, or returned to, the secure store.
When signing the use log, you must check that the sources are actually present in their
containers. For radiochemicals, record the approximate mass used.
A member of staff must check sources immediately after use by students.
.......which would be the teachers responsibility if letting students handle them.
If you do A level physics the students are meant to handle them for one of the core practicalsIn our school, all radiation samples are for demos only, it's a good rule really, a demo is good enough really.
WJEC board here, they never do during my time here, logs all show demo only.If you do A level physics the students are meant to handle them for one of the core practicals
Don't know about WJEC, but both AQA & OCR require it in England as part of the CPAC.WJEC board here, they never do during my time here, logs all show demo only.
Which practical is it, if you recall?
for OCR it's PAG7.2, investigating absorption of radioactive particles and rays. And it's practical skills requirement 1.2.2(l) use of ionising radiation, including detectorsWJEC board here, they never do during my time here, logs all show demo only.
Which practical is it, if you recall?
AQA required practical 12 https://filestore.aqa.org.uk/resources/physics/AQA-7407-7408-SUG-P12.PDFIf you do A level physics the students are meant to handle them for one of the core practicals
Can't find a number but it is one of the required practicals for A-Level Phys called Investigation of the variation of intensity of gamma radiation with distance according to the technician notes I foundWJEC board here, they never do during my time here, logs all show demo only.
Which practical is it, if you recall?
Yup, done as a demo here for WJECCan't find a number but it is one of the required practicals for A-Level Phys called Investigation of the variation of intensity of gamma radiation with distance according to the technician notes I found
Then they're doing it differently than intended as the skills were written and sent to every exam board to implement as the compulsory practicalsYup, done as a demo here for WJEC
I'll raise this with the HOD then, maybe it's a blunder with WJEC or in the school scheme of work.......At GCSE they can get away with watching demo's but for A-Level (excepting the 2 years the pandemic made things weird") that's not the case - they have to do the skills themselves
They still have themIsn't education devolved to the Welsh Assembly? Therefore not governed by English laws?
who did they contact? We have our inspection in Feb...![]()
that would be me then.HSE will usually use the contact email address that was given on the employers details online when the 'Registration' was completed.
It was sent to our administration team not the person who registeredthat would be me then.
