and thats why it's a site management thing!According to UKRadon, an average secondary school will need up to 70 testing units at £22 each. That's a lot of money.

Is it someone at the LA?I've just kept my paperwork trail. As far as I can work out the RPO has not been here for over 12 years, so if the HSE come I will mention that.
I had to bug our site manager a dozen times, he finally emailed the council and I have the info on file now.I've never had a response to my enquiry regarding the radon testing.

Ours came out as soon as the HSE news hit, did all their schools I believe.

The local LA cut off all the academies and got rid of their H&S dept, they only provide CLEAPSS for the one direct school now, I had to buy in from another LA.Yes, I know her too, as she visited my last school regularly. I've been here two years and not seen her, our Head of Science has been here 11 years and not seen her. Very odd as there are very few LA secondaries left here, we are one of only 3 or 4 in the county, perhaps they spend all their time visiting academies.
Get someone to contact the LA directly and make sure they added you to their subscription - whether that be CLEAPSS or directly to the RPADorset has, or at least had, a policy of allowing Academies to contract H&S oversight to them. I'm not at an academy now but I don't think that has changed. We used to see them every 2-3 years as an academy.

We got forgotten once before we became an academy - cue the weird excuse that "the woman who usually does it was on maternity so some schools got missed....."
If they don't use the CLEAPSS subscription model anymore you won't have an RPO anyway....
Problem is if they screwed up and and forgot you then you don't have an RPA and it's a massive issue for you guys and it's up to your governors, head, RPS etc. to make sure you have a contracted RPA even if you thought you'd requested the LA appoint one for youDo I really want to rattle their cage? It is the LA that is responsible for this. We do get H&S Audit visits from County but not special Science ones, they just visit the whole school.
I'd drop an email and ask if they are coming in to visit and check the RPO named on the paperwork is correct.Yes, I know her too, as she visited my last school regularly. I was told by the LA RPO thatCLEAPSS have confirmed the RPO. We are all good.
that was when the HSE started visiting, and they made us confirm the appointment. Each school employer must have a 'letter of appointment' recording this. It is a legal requirement. HSE inspectors will ask to see it. If you are unable to produce it, it could constitute a material breach of the regulations
it'sDoes anybody have an example of an appointment letter? Haven't seen one in L093 (probably a man look)
It seems an odd thing, we don't really appoint one, the LA does.
Under the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017, .................................... (employer's name) confirms it continues to appoint CLEAPSS as an HSE-recognised RPA Body provided through [LA]...................................... to the school for the purpose of advising on sources held for the teaching of science. We undertake to provide the RPO with any necessary information about the radioactive sources kept in our school.
