House hold items - acid or alkali.

Yr 7 experiment on testing household items.
Tea, vinegar, sparkling water, orange juice all coming up acidic. Bleach is alkaline.
Soap, washing up liquid and toothpaste more or less neutral.
First time I've come across this.
Any reason?

I cheat and give them buffers for toothpaste, soap etc usually buffer 8, then use buffer 10 for window / oven cleaner :)

Most soaps are pH neutral, remember the ad for palmolive or some such soap where they put indicator paper on a bar of soap to show how gentle it is .
dishwasher powder is alkali and so is oven cleaner

avoid bleach. Give them "drain cleaner" which is 0.4M NaOH and give them some milk of magnesia (diluted down)
