Exo endo

Request for 2 endo and 3 exo to give obvious temperature changes in tt.
Does anyone do this?
What reactions give the best temperature changes?

HCL + NaOH is easy.
Acetic acid + sodium carbonate is good endothermic.

Just to add on ;)

I was going to suggest HCl and NaOH, but the issue with it is that you really need at least 1M to get a noticeable temp rise, so something to bear in mind.

Yeah I usually give 1M the same, it means the rarely used splash proof goggles can be used.

Alongside the ones mentioned by Emil Tac this RSC practical gives some further info that might be useful. I would double check that they still give an appreciable temperature change if you are going to do the reactions in a test tube.

For a dramatic endothermic reaction, try mixing stoichiometric quantities of barium hydroxide-8 water and ammonium thiocyanate together in a beaker. Temperature typically drops to -25 deg C. Produces ammonia though, so recommended to do in a fume cupboard or a well-ventilated lab.

It'll be cos the RS.C limits how many articles you can read per week/month (sorry not sure the time period) without an account

If you register - for free - you can read as many and as much as you like

Yes indeed. If what you're seeing looks like this, then you need to register (it's free and fast).

I have signed up to the rsc.org.
There used to be a nice magazine we got free.
Do they still send it?
I think you're talking about Education in Chemistry. Yes, we send that free to members of Teach Chemistry who opt in to it. Teach Chemistry is open to anyone who works in science in a secondary school in the UK or Ireland. To receive the magazine, go to the Teach Chemistry homepage, sign in, and follow the instructions to first register for Teach Chemistry, then opt in to Education in Chemistry. Any problems, contact my colleagues on education@rsc.org.
