Commute

Peter Dale

Dammit man! I'm a technician, not a magician!
Mine isn't too bad. 4.8 mile drive, between 15 - 20 minutes on a typical day. My main issue is I can't drive (and I'm unlikely to since I've been left with a crippling fear of cars since my accident last year) so I'm completely dependent on lifts from family, or I have to pay through the nose for taxis that are never on time.

Mine is 8.5 miles each way, about 20-25 minutes.

Just a bit too far (and a lot too hilly !) to cycle on a normal bike, so I'm stuck driving as I can't afford an e-bike (unless I got rid of my car, but I need that for other things, mainly various volunteering roles !)

1.5 miles that I walk, takes me roughly 30 minutes. I have considered cycling but never got round to getting a bike, a car is too costly right now but for the distance doesn't really make sense.

25 min walk so I don't have to drive and I get my steps in! Our other technicians have a 20-25 min drive but I I don't think it's worth it as it would mean paying for fuel and at the moment I don't think it's worth it give our paltry wages.

My first tech job was 12.5 miles away from home but I only worked 9.30-2.30 so missed the worst of the rush hour traffic. On average took me about 35 min each way.

When my current job came up it was for the secondary school in the town where I live. Best decision ever, I now have a ~15 minute walk each way, no fuel costs and can work more hours for similar time out of the house so more money coming in.

3miles. I drive.
If I aim to arrive "on time" it takes me 20 - 25mins, so usually I leave 30mins early and it takes me 13mins (on average)
Time to put the kettle on and arrange the snack shelf.

55 mins on the bus each way
Bout 6 miles

Of course they're all on strike from Monday so that'll be...... fun?

11 miles each way, on back roads, driving like a local. About 20 minutes each way, 13 if there's no dawdlers. Makes no odds to me, though..my kids live half the time an additional 2 -3 miles away, so I'm taxi at the same point.

Changing jobs would cost me more time, and more fuel, and a logistics and convenience headache..

Currently 6 miles away and I can cycle some days. Have an interview for job 12 miles away so would defo have to drive every day but it is a better job and better pay...as much as I love it here etc.....

about 1.2 miles, walking. Takes about 25min. Uphill on way home though - which is why I don't bother trying to cycle! I hate driving, so suits me.

20 min walk through a lovely park.
But I have to admit, I miss being packed like a sardine, sandwiched between sweaty armpits in a tube at Oxford Circus station during rush hour....not.

18.3 miles in, 18.7 back home (one-way system ;)) - takes about 22-25 mins to get in (up to 30 if I don't catch the traffic lights well and there's slow traffic, but it is at 6:15am so not normally too bad...). Usually 40 mins or so to get home as the traffic is invariably heavier and slower.....

Just shy of 8 miles & takes just less than 15 mins via scenic country back roads...although constantly on look out for overly adventurous deer crossing roads...the amount of road kill is horrendous :(

Yep...that's normal for me as well..the amount of times the kids have heard "SH1T!! Bambi!!!", and i've been connected to Citroen emergency assist due to the rapid stop..
