I've been asked for 0.06M Bromine water and only have 0.02M in stock. Since its for testing alkenes, will this be a suitable substitute?
Also where do you buy bromine water from? I am nowhere near brave enough to tackle vials yet!
As Allan said, it's the colour that's important. I don't do any calculations for bromine water. I just directly add bromine until I get the pale orange colour I'm looking for. It's also safer funnily enough because I spend less time handling bromine as I cut out weighing/measuring steps.
RE making the bromine water - have a look at the CLEAPSS recipe book - they have methods where you won't have to handle bromine ampoules The recipes work just fine and it saves you the stress of doing something you're uncomfortable with.
